The Team:
Kiva Engineering is a rapidly growing team of eleven motivated engineers. We operate as a "start-up" in that everybody counts, and your contribution has the potential to make a big impact: on Kiva, and the world at large. We follow a Scrum development process, with 20% of time allocated for engineering innovation.
Your Mission (In Addition To Changing The World):
Let your passion for pixels advance Kiva's mission to alleviate world poverty. Kiva is entering a busy moment in front-end development - we are planning an overall site redesign, and a migration of portions of the site to a more maintanable content management system. You can help us bring this new vision to life and have your work on display for over a million unique visitors a month.
This role will initially focus on HTML and CSS development. Although there is room for creativity in this role, the candidate must be comfortable taking direction, and working within an existing (but evolving) set of style guidelines.
This position reports directly to the Director of Engineering, but on a day to day basis the candidate will work with many members of the Kiva Engineering, Product and Marketing departments.
Your Responsibilities:
* Convert mockups from our design team into production quality HTML and CSS
* Help maintain our site content by creating new HTML page and editing existing pages
* Help maintain our localization infrastructure
* Anything else that Kiva needs to get done!
Your Profile:
* Expertise in CSS and hand-coded HTML (no Dreamweaver please)
* Proficiency in Photoshop - able to make buttons, etc.
* Some exposure to PHP / Python / Rails or Java and dynamic templating (Smarty, Freemarker, JSPs)
* Knowledge of best practices with regards to cross-browser compatibility, image file formats, etc.
* Comfortable taking design direction and quick to solicit feedback in order to deliver the best possible work
* Attributes: collaborative / socially conscious / excited about Kiva's growth potential / low ego
* Wish List: visual design sense / experience using a CMS (Drupal, Wordpress) / experience with Javascript toolkits like JQuery
